Description:

The Office of Student Financial Aid at Talladega College is seeking a qualified individual for the entry level position of Financial Aid Advisor. Experience in a Financial Aid Office is desired but not required. Salary is commensurate with related experience.

Responsibilities:

  • The Financial Aid Advisor oversees the administration of student financial aid programs, which includes Grants, Loans, Work-Study and Scholarships.
  • Monitors compliance with federal, state, private and college rules and regulations that govern student financial aid.
  • Facilitates the processing of all student financial aid to include: verification and awarding Grants, Scholarships, Work-Study and Loans.
  • Assists students in the preparation of FAFSA and loan applications and on line LE/EC and MPN’s.
  • Monitors the monthly statements from billing agencies to ensure the CDR is compliant with the US Department of Education.
  • Practices all requirements as specified by law./li>

The individual in this position would also be responsible for reviewing student refunds and providing the approved documentation to Accounts Payable/Student Accounts for payment. The Financial Aid Advisor must have a proactive approach to student financial aid services with friendly, courteous, and professional financial aid assistance. The Advisor will manage the Federal Work-Study program, monitor student hours, report time monthly and conduct the FWS Manager/Employee Training workshop annually. The Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, that assets are safeguarded, reliable financial aid data is maintained and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures. The Advisor reports to the Director of Financial Aid and will assist in other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Higher education experience and at least two (2) years with a financial aid office preferred.
  • In depth knowledge of financial aid compliance issues and strong technical skills preferred.
  • Ability to interact effectively with students.
  • Excellent capabilities in managing financial aid computer programs and systems.
  • Ability to interpret Federal and State requirements
  • Proven effectiveness in budgeting and maintaining resources
  • Experience in creating policies and procedures manuals and development of other resources.
  • Successful candidate should have excellent written and oral communication skills, a creative approach to problem solving, and a sincere commitment to the academic success of Talladega students.
