Job Summary

Position Description:

Talladega College invites qualified candidates for adjunct professors in applied instruments for spring 2019. The desired start date is 01/10/2019. There are a number of vacancies to be filled listed below:

  • High brass (trumpet, mellow phone): 2-3
  • Low brass (trombone/tuba/euphonium): 2-3
  • Woodwind (flute, clarinet, saxophone): 1
  • Percussion: 2-3


  • Applied instructors will provide a student with weekly 50 minute lesson and attend juries at the end of the semester.
  • All individual lessons must be held on the Talladega College campus.
  • All instructors should prepare students with technical studies and at least 2 pieces from standard classical repertoire at college levels.
  • Applied instructors are responsible for the preparation of students for juries, semester/senior recitals, competitions, and auditions for graduate schools.
  • Successful candidates will have ability to teach their specialized instruments at all levels, beginner to advanced, and to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures.
  • All instructors should record student attendance and submit it monthly to Chair of Music Department.
  • Employees shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the College and the Music department and work closely with Chair of Music Department and Dean of Fine Arts & Humanities.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Work Hours

  • Monday: 12 pm - 5pm
  • Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 9 am - 5 pm


Minimum Master of Music in music performance with 12 graduate course hours. Doctoral preferred. At least two years of teaching experience at the college or high school level.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
