Job Summary

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with college faculty, staff and pre-service teachers, as well as host teachers from surrounding school districts for professional learning. The candidate will be expected to use effective teaching practices in the college classroom as a model of research-based pedagogical practices. A willingness to teach using best practices and K-6 model lessons while working in partnerships with public schools is necessary. The successful candidate must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching as well as represent the college program on university committees and grant-writing teams. In addition, the candidate must demonstrate a willingness to collaborate and co-teach across departments. A desire to interact and work with students in the capacity of professor and mentor and to arrange and monitor field experiences is necessary. The unique quality of the Talladega College Education Department college curriculum plan requires support of on campus professional learning for students, school partners, and faculty. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold an earned doctorate in Elementary Education with an emphasis on reading or math and will have a minimum of three years teaching experience in an elementary education setting. A reading specialist degree is preferred but not required. A criminal background check is required before employment and candidate must be able to secure an Alabama Teaching Certificate.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
