Job Summary

The Chief/Director of Campus Police is responsible for maintaining the security and safety of Talladega College property, facilities, employees and students. The Chief/Director of Campus Police shall coordinate an effective security program that includes all aspects of campus safety, traffic management on the college property, prevention, emergency management and associated training programs.

Minimum Required Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. However, a combination of education and experience, required knowledge, skills and abilities in security management will be considered.
  • Minimum 7 years security experience in law enforcement at an education institution environment and as a licensed peace officer.
  • Minimum 5 years supervisory and management experience is required.
  • Must be certified by a state law enforcement agency.
  • Preference is given to candidate who has completed a law enforcement management program.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must genuinely love working with students and must have a demonstrated record of flexibility and willingness to serve.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Talladega College vision and mission and ability to interpret college policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in safety and security management for a college campus.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations regarding security and safety college campus.
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire and manage appropriate staff and maintain a 24/7 security operation.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to effectively work with people.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct security investigations that include: problem solving, data collection, establishing relevant facts and drawing valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate, current and coherent logs.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to set priorities, meets deadlines, and multitasks with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to be detail oriented.
  • Demonstrated skills in working with computers, Microsoft Office internet resources, security cameras and other equipment routinely used by security personnel.
Essential Job Functions
  • Manages and supervises campus police personnel-conducts and coordinates on-going security training and evaluation. Organizes, directs and evaluates all departmental activities including strategies, planning, budgeting, and maintaining accurate records of criminal investigative incidents, safety problems and vehicle registration.
  • Monitor daily security logs to ensure accuracy and compliance of Federal and State regulations.
  • Maintain yearly reports to remain in compliance with Jeanne Clery Act regulations.
  • Maintain effective communication with Student Services personnel and provide regular security and safety education programs for students.
  • Maintains effective communication with Human Resources as it pertains to campus security and safety issues and provide timely resourceful educational programs to improve campus security and safety awareness (includes coordinating regular drills: fire, weather-related, safety, etc.)
  • Maintain appropriate relationships with City, County, and State enforcement agencies, fire and EMS personnel.
  • Coordinate all security and safety needs related to special events on campus.
  • Oversee general maintenance of all equipment for the campus police department.
  • Maintain healthy rapport with other Directors throughout the college and seek to collaborate with them to provide excellent customer service.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical and Special Requirements
  • Must be in excellent physical health since the position involves significant walking, running and/or movement.
  • Ability to safely drive security vehicles.
  • Must be available 24/7 to coordinate rare cases of emergencies on campus.
  • Successfully pass a physical agility test, an in-depth background investigation, and a psychological test.
