Program Description:
The Ronald E. McNair Program at Talladega College is funded by the U.S. Department of Education. It provides opportunities for research or other scholarly activities such as summer internships, tutoring and academic counseling designed to prepare students for doctoral study. It also provides education or counseling services designed to improve financial and economic literacy of students, and exposure to cultural events and academic programs not usually available to disadvantaged students.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and implementing program activities including:
• Monitoring participants’ academic progress.
• Academic and financial aid counseling.
• Maintaining accurate data files on participants.
• Assisting participants in planning and applying to graduate programs.
• Assisting participants in securing financial support for graduate education.
• Other program related activities as determined by the Program Director.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree required in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline. The successful candidate must have:
• Experience in working with students from diverse backgrounds.
• Strong communication, word processing and data management skills.
• The ability to work productively with team members as well as independently.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
