Talladega, Al—Since President Billy C. Hawkins announced the over $1 million gift from Dr. William and Mrs. Norma Harvey to establish the William R. Harvey Art Museum at Talladega College, excitement has grown from alumni, elected officials, and Talladega College board of trustee. The comments have been captured.

“The Amistad murals were only possible through philanthropy and visionaries who understood the transformation it would make on Talladega College, the community, and the nation. Dr. and Mrs. Harvey’s gift is just as transformation as the gifts to create the Amistad Murals. The College will return to greatness through the philanthropy of individuals, like Dr. Harvey, who can re-envision its’ future.” President Billy C. Hawkins, Talladega College.

“I am extremely grateful to Dr. William Harvey for the significant gift he has bestowed upon Talladega College. Not only does this donation depict his love and commitment to his alma mater, but it also clearly demonstrates his incredible understanding of economic development and the major role that colleges and universities play in economic prosperity and workforce development for the communities in which they serve.” Tracey Morant Adams, Member, Board of Trustee and Senior Vice President and Small Business and Community Development Director, Renasant Corporation

“Talladega College alumni revere the Amistad Murals, and to have one of our own, Bill Harvey, to name the new home for the murals makes this a great day in our 147 year history. On behalf of Talladega College’s nearly 4,000 living alumni, I extend my deepest appreciation to Dr. and Mrs. Harvey for supporting the Amistad Murals and Dear Old Talladega.” Greg Austin, President, National Alumni Association

“For over 147 years, Talladega College has been an integral part of the Town of Talladega. Words are inadequate to express what Talladega College means to the Town of Talladega. As Mayor, I am proud of the growth and leadership the College has experienced under the leadership of Dr. Hawkins. Dr. Harvey’s gift is will not only benefit the College but the entire town, county, and region.” Mayor Larry Barton, Town of Talladega, Alabama

“Every Talladegan learns about the history of the Amistad Murals from the first day on campus. It is the special bind we all share. Dr. Harvey’s amazing gift crosses generations of Talladegans and ensures that the Alpha Lyrae Vega is still the brightest star in the universe. Talladega students are so grateful to Dr. and Mrs. Harvey.” Raven Black’14, President, Student Government Association

"I was exceedingly pleased and proud to learn of Bill Harvey's generous gift to our alma mater. And not just for the gift, as important as it is, but that it came from a long-time friend and fellow alumnus. His leadership is an inspiration for all of us. His lead gift is proof positive of his love for and confidence in Talladega College. It will make all 'Degans dig deeper to personally support and to ask others to support the Arts Museum which will house the Amistad Murals and serve as the center piece of the campus and our fundraising efforts." James Cole’62, Member, Board of Trustee

“The William R. Harvey Art Museum will bring vibrant and creative scholarship in a new and exhilarating way to the campus.
