Talladega, Alabama—Talladega College is gearing up for an exceptional fall semester with new and exciting endeavors for the school year in just a few days. The campus is already buzzing with new sounds and students in anticipation of the academic semester. A record number of students will be welcomed on the campus this fall.

The Historic Talladega College Marching Band began band camp practice on July 28th and will continue until school begins. Band members can be seen and heard across the campus with their instruments and marching on the grounds. At night, the band room and surrounding area are filled with the sounds of varied percussion and wind instruments echoing across the yard. The band will make their debut appearance at the Black & White Ceremony for new students.

Freshmen Orientation Week is set to launch Sunday, August 12 through Saturday, August 18. The week is planned with informative sessions and workshops for freshmen, transfer students, and their parents. The annual Black & White Ceremony, where new students are formally inducted into the Talladega College student body and celebrated by their families, the administration, faculty and staff is scheduled for Sunday, August 12, 2012 from 7-9 p.m. in DeForest Chapel. Alumni, friends and the general public are invited to watch this event.

The school year will kick off with a bang as Talladega College welcomes hip-hop artists: Travis Porter, Roscoe Dash, Major and CTG at their Refresh Back to School Concert. The concert is staged for Friday night, August 24th at 8 pm in the Talladega College Gymnasium. The event will be hosted by Young Dil & Lil Homie plus mix master DJ Bad Boy Butch of 95.7 JAMZ. Limited tickets are available and can be purchased in the campus bookstore or at On Time Fashions in Anniston, Alabama. For ticket information, call 855-TC-TICS (855-828-8427).

President, Dr. Billy Hawkins remarks, “This is an exciting time for us. We’ve been preparing for some time and now we are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our students for the fall semester. For nearly 145 years, we’ve been producing world leaders. We will continue our tradition of academic excellence. There’s still much more that lies ahead.” General registration for classes will be held on the campus August 15-17 and classes are set to begin on Monday, August 20th. The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
