CHAIRMAN COAXUM WILL BE HONORED BY THE NATIONAL BLACK COLLEGE ALUMNI HALL OF FAME


Talladega, Alabama—The National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame has recently named its honorees for 2012. Dr. Harry L. Coaxum, chairman of the Talladega College board of Trustees was recently added to the roster.

Dr. Coaxum will receive the inaugural Legacy of Leaders Alumnus of the Year Award. The Talladega College national alumni association nominated him for this honor in recognition of his exemplary leadership and service in addition to Dr. Coaxum’s outstanding support of his community and Historically Black College and Universities. The award will be presented during the Annual Hall of Famers Awards Luncheon in Atlanta on September 28.

Chairman Coaxum recently retired from his position as the Vice President, General Manager for McDonald’s Atlanta Region. He provided strategic leadership for 790 restaurants that generate $1.9 billion in annual revenues in the states of Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and North Carolina. He also served as the Vice President, General Manager for the Philadelphia Region that included 600 business units, more than 120 franchise organizations and 80 regional staff in Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and Central New York with revenues above $1.3 billion. Dollars and Sense Magazine, Ebony Magazine, and the Atlanta Tribune Magazine are just a few publications that have featured Coaxum’s achievements. He’s been the recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Award from the National Alumni Council of UNCF, UNCF Alumni Hall of Fame Inductee among other numerous awards.

Dr. Coaxum is a graduate of Talladega College with a B.A. in Economics; he completed course work at the Amos Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College; and he was bestowed a Doctor of Humane Letters from Talladega College in May 2012.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
