Talladega College will host Hall of Famer legend and Star-Studded Guests

Talladega, Alabama—Since 1867, Talladega College has been educating scholars and impacting the world. During the week of October 28 through November 4, the college will observe its annual Founders’ Week of activities.

On Sunday, October 28, BET’s Sunday’s Best Winner, Joshua Rogers will be in concert at DeForest Chapel on the campus at 6:30 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public. The week will continue with fun and exciting activities for students on the campus.

The Coronation of Mr. and Miss Talladega College will take place on Friday, November 2nd, at 7 p.m. in DeForest Chapel. Vandrea Watts, Miss Talladega College is from Birmingham, Alabama. She is a 2009 graduate of Gardendale High School and the daughter of Errol and Carolyn Watts of Birmingham. Mr. TC, Tevon Bond, is a 2009 graduate of Rich South High School in Richton Park, Illinois. He is the son of Ms. Tonya Bond and Mr. Robert Watts of Chicago, Illinois.

The weekend will take off with the Annual Founders’ Parade beginning at 10 a.m. in the city of Talladega on Saturday. This year, Talladega College will have its very own Tornado Marching Band and other featured groups as they march down Battle Street to the campus. Homecoming basketball games and activities will continue throughout the day leading up to a star-studded affair for the evening. Baseball legend and Hall of Famer, Hank Aaron and his wife, Billye, will be the guest speakers during the Founders’ Celebration Banquet at the Talladega Superspeedway at 7 p.m., Saturday night, November 3rd. The Master of Ceremony for the banquet will be comedian, Jonathan Slocumb. Slocumb is the host of ASPiRE TV network's new series, "Groundbreaking Comedy." He’s known for his clean humor and previous roles on “The Steve Harvey Show”, Tyler Perry’s “Meet the Browns,” and Jamie Foxx’s “Laffapalooza.” Guests will also be entertained by recording artist, Eric Benét. A special VIP reception will take place prior to the dinner at 6:30 p.m. for VIP ticketholders. The Homecoming Events will conclude with the Annual Founders’ Convocation in Tornado Alley Gymnasium, Sunday morning, November 4th, at 10 a.m. The speaker is TC alumna, Dr. Juliette Bell, the President of the University of Maryland at Eastern Shore. The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
