Counseling Services

Mission Statement: The Office of Counseling Services is an essential component to aid in the development of the whole student. In the Office of Counseling Services, students are assisted with academic, personal, social and career development. All students are urged to register with the Counseling Services Office during their freshman/transfer year. During this registration process, students will be able to complete a resume’ which will be kept on file and updated accordingly. The Office of Counseling Services offers assistance to students and alumni in finding suitable employment in business, governmental and educational organizations that seek college-trained personnel for permanent employment.

Individual Counseling Services (Personal and Social)

The Office of Counseling Services offers Individual Counseling on an as needed basis – as well as referral services to outside counseling agencies if necessary. Services are offered in the following areas:

• Anger Management
• Building Positive Relationships
• Conflict Resolution
• Crisis Intervention
• Depression
• Disability Services (ADA)
• Goal Setting for Success
• Isolation/Depression
• Peer Pressure
• Rape/Crisis Intervention
• Substance Abuse (SA)
• Other Related Health Issues
• Transitional Workshop – “High School to College” *
• Transitional Workshop - “My Bedroom to My Dormitory Room” *

Career Services

The Office of Counseling Services provides Career Planning and Placement to assist students, and alumni in securing graduate school admission and/or employment. Employment and Internship Opportunities as well as dates of standardized testing are posted in the Career Service Center (#114 Seymour Hall) as well as on the “Jobs Placement Board” and the My Talladega web page. The Career Center is open Monday – Friday from 8:30A.M. – 4:30P.M.; and services are offered in the following areas:

• Business and Social Etiquette *
• Community Employment Resources
• Competitive Salary Information
• Dress Code *
• Interviewing Skills
• Mock Interviews
• Resume` Writing

Each spring the Office of Counseling Services hosts a Graduate School and Career Fair.

FACTS & STATS

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
