President’s Welcome
THE NEW TALLADEGAN
INAUGURAL EDITION We dreamed improbable dreams. In our dreams, we saw new buildings
constructed and old ones renovated. We saw enrollment numbers soar as academic
offerings expanded. We saw Talladega College reclaim its position among
our nation’s premier academic institutions. Because we were committed to our
dreams, we labored steadily and we brought them to fruition.
In January, 2019, we held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening
of our new, state-of-the-art residence hall. The pride and exuberance that
Talladegans around the world felt that day has been felt again and again as the
vision has continued to unfold.
A ribbon cutting for the Dr. William R. Harvey Museum of Art, which houses
our beloved Amistad Murals, was held January 31, 2020. A ribbon cutting for
our first-ever student center was held on the same day. In addition, we have been
quietly making major updates in Savery Library, Silsby Hall and other campus
facilities.
But what we are experiencing at Talladega is much more than a physical
transformation. The College had record-breaking enrollment numbers for the
2018-2019 and the 2019-2020 academic years. Talladega is listed among the
Princeton Review’s best colleges in the Southeast and named one of U.S. News
Talladega College/OIA and World Report’s most innovative colleges. In addition, we recently launched
627 W. Battle Street our first-ever graduate program, a Master of Science in Computer Information
Talladega, AL. 35160 Systems.
www.talladega.edu In June, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on
Colleges (SACSCOC) reaffirmed Talladega’s accreditation for the next ten
years. We are proud that Talladega was reaffirmed with no recommendations
for change in any of the standards. We are also thrilled that, for the first time
President ever, Talladega is accredited to teach at the master’s degree level.
Dr. Billy C. Hawkins
There is so much more in store for this great institution that I cannot begin to
Vice President for
Institutional Advancement cover it all in one brief message. However, I assure you that, with your continued
Mr. Seddrick T. Hill support and commitment, all of our improbable dreams will soon come true.
