Ms. Essye B. Miller retired as a career member of the Department of Defense Senior Executive Service. She served as Principal Deputy, Chief Information Officer for the Department of Defense . In this capacity Ms. Miller assisted the DoD CIO as the primary advisor to the Secretary of Defense for Information Management/Information Technology and Information Assurance as well as non-intelligence space systems; critical satellite communications, navigation, and timing programs; spectrum; and telecommunications.
Ms. Miller also previously served as the Department’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). As the CISO, Ms. Miller was responsible for ensuring that DoD had a well-defined and executed cybersecurity program, and coordinating cybersecurity standards, policies, and procedures with other federal agencies, coalition partners, and industry. She held numerous other positions within the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. Ms Miller currently serves as a Board Director for several corporate and privately held companies.
Ms. Miller was instrumental in establishing the Cybersecurity Center at Talladega College. She earned a B.A. from Talladega College, an M.A. from Troy State, and an M.A. from Air University.
