Kristie Brooks Purnell ’91, JD

Kristie Brooks Purnell, an accomplished attorney, currently serves as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Employment Law, Litigation, and Compliance at Carter’s. With a career marked by dedication to client welfare and success, Purnell has been recognized as a professional, proficient, and gracious advocate for her clients.

Since March 2011, Purnell has been a partner at Epstein Becker & Green, P.C., where she specializes in labor and employment counseling and litigation. Her expertise includes affirmative action program development, implementation, and defense. She collaborates closely with human resources professionals, executive management, and in-house counsel to assess labor and employment risks and ensure compliance with state, federal, and regulatory laws. Purnell is known for developing strategic approaches to manage litigation and audit risks, and she frequently conducts training and mock audits to provide clients with risk assessments.

Before joining Epstein Becker & Green, P.C., Purnell was a partner at Constangy, Brooks & Smith, LLP from January 2005 to March 2011. She also served as an associate at the same firm from July 1999 to December 2004 and at Haynsworth Baldwin Johnson & Greaves, LLC from October 1997 to July 1999.

In addition to her legal career, Purnell is the president of the Talladega College National Alumni Association, a position she has held since July 2023. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in English/Journalism from Talladega College in 1991 and her Juris Doctor from Temple University’s James E. Beasley School of Law in 1995.
