Dr. Monique Gardner Witherspoon currently serves as Senior Associate Dean and Deputy Title IX Officer for Academic Affairs at Samford University. She has a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Policy and Administration and a Juris Doctorate as well. She is a professor in the Doctoral Studies Department with a specialization in Organizational Leadership, Policy, and Compliance.
Previously, she served as the President and CEO of a large nonprofit organization and an Area Superintendent for the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System, in addition to many other leadership positions.
During her tenure, Dr. Witherspoon was recognized as Area Superintendent of the Year, Regional Affiliate of the Year for three consecutive years, the Mayor of Birmingham’s Leadership Award recipient, the Community Service Award recipient from Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, A Woman of Incredible Influence Award from Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, a Trustee and Board Secretary of Talladega College, the Vulcan Award and the Inaugural Beeson Leadership Award recipient to name a few. Dr. Witherspoon serves on a number of community and national boards and has received numerous awards and recognition for her organizational leadership, compliance, and public policy interests.
As a scholar and researcher, Dr. Witherspoon has authored a number of articles and publications and has served as a keynote speaker at local, state, and national conferences.
She is married to Dr. Craig Witherspoon, and they have one adult son.
