Zenda Bowie '73

A native of New York City, Zenda Bowie earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Talladega College in 1973. She has worked with the Talladega College National Alumni Association (TCNAA) for more than 50 years, serving National President from 2014-2017.

Ms. Bowie was an elected member of the Fulton County Board of Education from 1990 – 2006. She represented the Board on the Fulton County Public Schools Foundation, the Fulton County Partners in Education Council (1992-1996), the Fulton County Schools Pension Board (1991-1994), WXIA-TV's Keeping Kids First Advisory Council (1994-1999), the Board of Directors - Georgia School Boards Association (1996-2004) and Board of Trustees - Georgia School Boards Association Risk Management Fund.

Ms. Bowie’s career experience includes philanthropic activities with Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A, in New York City and health education programs for Fulton County Health Department in Atlanta, Georgia. She joined the American Lung Association (ALA) as a health educator and retired as Chief Operating Officer, Southeast Region after 27 years of service. She was the first minority president of the Congress of Lung Association Staff and did double duty for the national office of ALA, working as interim Executive Director ALA of Washington, DC in 1997, while still working for the Georgia organization. In 2006, the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) recruited Ms. Bowie to work as Director of Field Services. Although retired, she is a training consultant for GSBA and has facilitated workshops in Florida and Mississippi.

She is an active member of the East Point/College Park chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Clerk of Session at Rice Memorial Presbyterian Church, deputy registrar for Fulton and DeKalb counties. A Registered Parliamentarian, she is president of the Georgia Registered Unit of the National Association of Parliamentarians and recipient of numerous community service awards. Ms. Bowie has two adult daughters and two adult grandchildren.
