Athletic Trainer

Summary

An athletic trainer is responsible for ensuring the health and performance of student-athletes by implementing injury prevention programs, conducting assessments, and delivering immediate care for injuries during practices and events. Collaborating with coaching staff, medical professionals, and athletes, the trainer designs and oversees rehabilitation plans to facilitate safe returns to play. Effective communication is crucial for educating athletes on injury prevention techniques and providing guidance on lifestyle choices affecting performance. The role also involves meticulous documentation of injuries and treatments, compliance with medical standards, and the development of emergency action plans playing a vital role in fostering a health-conscious and supportive athletic community.

Responsibilities

  • Attend athletic practices, games, and travel arrangements
  • Produce weekly status reports for athletes
  • Performs on-site evaluations of injuries and provides patient/client treatment and education as deemed appropriate by Alabama Athletic Training Licensing Act
  • Evaluation, management, and treatment of athletic injuries
  • Assist with the maintenance of athletic training room equipment
  • Daily record keeping and maintenance of student athlete files
  • Assist with annual physical examinations as requested
  • Assess and evaluate injuries to determine their nature and severity.
  • Provide guidance on nutrition, hydration, and lifestyle choices impacting performance.
  • Advocate for the health and well-being of athletes within the sports organization.
 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree
  • NATABOC Certification
  • Eligible for Alabama State Licensure
  • Current CPR certification
  • Must be a team player
  • Minimum of one year experience working directly with college-level, high injury sports.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
