Job Summary

Talladega College Academic Advisor works with the students, faculty and administrative staff in support of the Office of the provost and Quality Enhancement Program. The Advisor works closely with the deans, chairs, and faculty in a proactive manner to ensure that high quality approach is used with all students in meeting their advising needs and in support of the preparation and implementation of departmental wide goals, procedures and controls are met. The Academic Advisor must possess a high people and organizational skills with the ability to collect large data on campus, related to the progress of many students (population of interest e.g., At-Risk Students, Fast Track, First Generation) and for different academic programs as a whole. The Academic Advisor will assess and maintain efficient and effective operating procedures, including use of technology, ongoing training, and delivery of exemplary service to students and the College community.

Responsibilities

Work with faculty and staff from relevant offices on continuous improvement and provision of support mechanism for providing exceptional customer service on advising students. This includes:
 

  • Traditional undergraduates as well as transfers
  • At-Risk students
  • Adult learners, first generation, Fast Track, graduate students
  • International students
    1. Coordinate with the Student Success Center, Admissions, the Education Department Faculty on Orientation Courses, Career Pathways Initiative, Fast Track, Alumni and the Registrar in supporting the registration and Orientation process for beginning or first-year students.
    2. Assist Director of QEP in the successful implementation and monitoring the success of advising process at Talladega College.
    3. Work collaboratively with Student Success Center (SSC), Orientation faculty, Student Affairs, Information Technology, Deans, Chairs, faculty and staff on the operation of Advisement processes at the College.
    4. Lead the Advisement process for its smooth operation, efficient and effectiveness, for increasing student retention and graduation.
    5. Tracking and monitoring At-risk students’ progression in meeting requirements of their degree until graduation.
    6. Coordinate the administration of assessments tools and collection of the Academic Challenge Form amongst other metrics to demonstrate performance and submitted to Director of QEP.
    7. Collaborate with Admissions Office, Registrar and other relevant faculty and committees to develop advising outcomes and assessment.
    8. Develop and oversee training for academic advising in collaboration with SSC, Career Pathway, Alumni Office in chosen Alumni Mentors and the application of Technology for Advising process.
    9. Adhere to the advising manual and update as necessary.
    10. As subject matter expert on advising, must participate in national conversation on advising through attending conference, local, national and professional fora online and onsite.
    11. Support the Director of QEP in collecting assessment data, preparing reports and grant applications related to the academic programs and meeting SACSCOC requirements.
    12. Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree from a regional accreditation institution.
  • A minimum of four (4) year related experience and a bachelor’s degree.
  • The individual must possess good organizational skills.
  • Must be a good team player and work collaboratively with other stakeholders.
  • Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and exercise good judgements.
  • Provide courteous service to a diverse students and College community.
  • Must be able to take direction, proactive, take action and work as a team.
  • Seek, identify, and implement best practices on advisement according to NACADA and attending its annual conference.
