Talladega College is seeking a Dean to lead the Division of Lifelong Learning and Professional Development. This position reports to the Provost and is slated to begin preferably in spring 2024 but no later than July 1, 2024.

Division of Lifelong Learning and Professional Development

The Division of Lifelong Learning and Professional Development (LLPD) was created in fall 2022. The Division of LLPD has an enrollment of just over 100+ students. The Division administers the Fast Track degree-completion program which provides adult learners with approximately 45 credit hours the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree in an on-line, accelerated format. Students are able to complete a bachelor’s degree in business organizational management, business management, criminal justice, psychology, or computer information systems.

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President and Provost and manages all aspects of the degree-completion program from recruitment to faculty supervision to advising in cooperation with appropriate department heads and administrative office staff. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary to recruit and retain non-traditional students. Establishing professional development and short-term educational opportunities in collaboration with a thirdparty vendor will also be an expectation. Other duties include oversight of the division’s budget, representing the division within the institution and the community, and other activities and projects as assigned. This is a full-time, 12-month, on-site position.

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution
  • Evidence of effective administrative leadership and experience with planning, staff and faculty oversight, and budgeting as a dean, associate dean, department head, or program director at a post-secondary institution
  • Excellent organizational management, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Experience teaching adult learners and/or background in continuing education or professional development
  • Ability to work effectively with the campus community, non-traditional students, and community partners
  • Experience with program promotion, marketing, recruitment, and retention, preferably with adult populations

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience with collaborative initiatives, sound fiscal management, and curriculum development
  • Experience evaluating faculty in online courses
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and a successful record of collegial/shared governance
  • Evidence of a collaborative management style and fostering an inclusive environment for diverse populations
  • Experience successfully engaging and developing external relationships that effectively build an infrastructure of resource enhancement for program support and growth
  • Ability to lead division in implementing a strategic plan to envision new opportunities for in alignment with institutional priorities
  • Experience developing programs and interdisciplinary offerings (credit and non-credit) to address market needs
  • Record of innovative problem-solving and outcomes driven leadership
  • Commitment to development of innovative teaching and instructional technologies and academic programs
  • Able to resolve conflict and complex problems while exercising a high level of discretion and integrity
  • Proven ability to recruit and motivate personnel in order to balance strength with growth of the program.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching, scholarly activity, and service to merit a faculty appointment at the rank of professor
  • Experience as an academic advisor

Responsibilities of the Dean include the following:

  • Develop and implement program recruitment and retention goals and operational plans for realizing goals including a marketing plan and promotional material.
  • Identify and participate in recruiting activities/events targeting adult learners
  • Prepare monthly reports on program recruitment/retention activities0
  • Recruit faculty for the program in cooperation with the appropriate department heads
  • Lead the revision and development of the adult learner curriculum in cooperation with faculty
  • Coach prospective learners through the admissions process
  • Advise students and train part-time advisors to be effective advisors
  • Schedule all classes in accordance with course rotation schedule for each term
  • Provide oversight of the curriculum and ensures assessment of program learning outcomes
  • Supervise and assist Fast Track program office manager and academic advisors.
  • Work collaboratively with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Research to collect and analyze data for program assessment and SACSCOC standards
  • Collaborate with Online Faculty Manager to ensure student enrollment in classes
  • Develop programs and interdisciplinary offerings (credit and non-credit) addressing market needs
  • Represent the division on appropriate institutional committees and participate in policy development
  • Oversee division budget planning and external funding and third-party contracts
  • Foster an environment of inclusive excellence and shared governance
  • Cultivate and enhance alternative revenue and support program growth
  • Work collegially with all members of the campus community and key stakeholders external to the institution
  • Lead and execute strategic plan for division in alignment with institutional strategic plan
  • Demonstrate ability to resolve conflict and complex problems while exercising a high level of discretion and integrity
  • Other duties as assigned
