Financial Aid Specialist I

Key Position Responsibilities:

  1. Under the direction of the Director of Financial Aid, support prospective and continuing students by reviewing and evaluating financial aid eligibility based on institutional, state, and federal regulations.
  2. Provide efficient and timely delivery of accurate information, services, and funding concerning the financial aid scope of practice.
  3. Assist in compiling information for federal, state, and institutional financial aid reports.
  4. Collects, analyzes, evaluates, and verifies financial aid data and documents submitted by students.
  5. Enter student financial aid tracking data into the Student Information System (SIS), Federal Department of Education’s online computer systems, and other aid management systems as required.
  6. Provide guidance and support to students in navigating the FAFSA application process, including researching, preparing application materials, applying, and the next steps that follow submission.
  7. Performs need analysis, calculations, and corrections through the Department of Education website and SIS systems.
  8. Maintain accurate records of verification and corrections, financial aid awards, and disbursements.
  9. Coordinate with a variety of campus partners to ensure seamless communication and collaboration regarding financial aid-related matters.
  10. Participate in workshops to educate students about financial aid, financial literacy, and responsible financial planning.
  11. Stay informed about changes in financial aid policies, regulations, and best practices in the field of higher education.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Financial Aid/Grants or other senior administrators.
 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Clerical experience.
  • Higher Ed experience
  • Demonstrate excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with little direction
  • Proficient organizational skills
  • Advanced experience in the use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Google Suite products
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive data and information confidentially
