Dr. Alison Brown

Dean and Chair, Biology

Dr. Alison Brown is the dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the chair of the Biology Department, professor of Biology and director of the McNair Scholars Program. In addition, she holds the Dr. Jewel Plummer Cobb Endowed Chair. She has taught at Talladega College since 1996 and has served as Chair of the Biology Department since 2003. In 2018 she was named dean of the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. In 2022 she was named dean of the faculty as well, and in 2023 was named the Dr. Jewel Plummer Cobb Endowed Chair. She has served as director of the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Program since 2000.

Dr Brown earned a B.A. in Biology from Fisk University, an M.S. in Biology from Tuskegee University, and a Ph.D. in Toxicology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has been active in numerous professional organizations through the years including the American Association for Cancer Research, the American Chemical Society, Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, the International Society for Technology in Education, and the Southeastern Association for Educational Opportunity Program Personnel. Dr. Brown continues to conduct research in the field of cancer biology.
