Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities

Mr. Bruce W. Henderson, Jr. is an emerging leader in worship studies, choral artistry, and collegiate music education. He previously served as Choral Director and Music Instructor at Lawson State Community College, where he was committed to cultivating excellence in vocal performance, musicianship, and artistic integrity among a diverse body of student musicians. Under his leadership, the Lawson State Choir experienced renewed visibility and musical growth, participating in distinguished events such as the Alabama American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) Collegiate Choral Festival, where students engage with high-caliber collegiate ensembles from across the state. His work emphasizes measurable student learning outcomes, comprehensive musicianship, and the development of culturally responsive choral performers.  The students also performed at the famed Carnegie Hall in New York, City.

Mr. Henderson’s collegiate teaching portfolio includes instruction in Music Theory I & II, Class Voice, Concert Choir, and applied vocal training, grounding his students in both technical proficiency and expressive artistry. His pedagogical approach reflects a commitment to student empowerment, academic rigor, and transformational learning. Prior to joining Lawson State, he spent seven years in Birmingham City Schools (2015–2022) as a choral director and music educator, where he built strong middle- and high-school programs known for musical discipline, community connection, and competitive performance standards.

Academically, Mr. Henderson is pursuing the Doctor of Worship Studies (D.W.S.) at Liberty University, specializing in the intersection of theology, liturgy, music ministry, and congregational formation. His graduate focus enriches both his collegiate teaching and his pastoral leadership, equipping him to bridge the worlds of scholarship, worship, and community engagement. He is also a sought-after clinician, arranger, and guest presenter for workshops, revivals, worship conferences, and statewide conventions.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Henderson is the visionary behind several large-scale musical, educational, and ministerial initiatives. He leads Pastor Bruce Jr. & the Warriors of Worship, oversees RBJWOW Music and KINGB Records, directs multiple community choirs, and is actively preparing ensembles for Carnegie Hall 2026. His students benefit from his extensive performance experience, his professional network, and his passion for developing leaders in both sacred and classical music spaces.

A committed scholar-practitioner, Mr. Henderson’s work is defined by excellence, creativity, and a deep belief in the transformative power of music education. Whether shaping collegiate musicians, developing young ministers, or conducting choirs across Alabama, he continues to influence the next generation of artists, worship leaders, and emerging professionals. Mr. Henderson received his Master's degree in Music from Jacksonville State University and his Bachelor's degree in Music from Stillman College.
