Mr. John Walker Davis

Assistant Professor, History

Mr. John Davis is an assistant professor of African American History, African Diaspora, and United States History. Prior to joining the faculty at Talladega College in 2017, he taught at Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham and Jacksonville State University.

Professor Davis’ current research focuses on an institutional history of Talladega College. He has made recent presentations regarding the College’s history:

  • “Talladega: Two Thousand Acres and Two Different Origin Stories” accepted for presentation at the Popular Culture Association/American Culture Association at San Antonio, Texas, 7-10 April 2023.
  • “Two Talladegas: a Tale of Speed and Endurance,” presented at the Gulf South History Conference in Gulf Port, Alabama, 13-15 October 2022.
 

Mr. Davis’ publications include the following:

Mr. Davis graduated with a B.A. Magna Cum Laude in History at Valdosta State University. He also earned an M.A. History, Valdosta State University and is working on a Ph.D. (ABD) History, University of Georgia.

Mr. Davis is a member of the Southern Historical Association and the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.
