Samuel Alonzo Dodge, Ph.D. earned his doctorate in history from Lehigh University, where his dissertation was honored with the Elizabeth Stout Dissertation Prize. He also holds degrees from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Brigham Young University.
Dr. Dodge’s research and teaching center on American religious history, with a particular focus on the relationship between church and state from the colonial era through the 19th century. He has taught a wide range of courses, including the United States survey, the American Revolution, the Civil War, World Wars I and II, the Civil Rights Movement, and the evolving concepts of liberty and freedom in American politics and society. In addition, he offers courses in European and Atlantic World history.
A native of Utah, Dr. Dodge is excited to join the faculty at Talladega College, supported by his wife, their three children, and two energetic pups.
