Biography
Dr. Trace Fleming-Trice, LICSW-S (she/her), serves as the Interim Chair of the Department of Social Work at Talladega College. She holds a Doctor of Social Work (DSW) from the University of Alabama, a Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of New England, and a Bachelor of Social Work from Jacksonville State University. She is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with Supervisory Designation (LICSW-S) in the state of Alabama.
With more than 20 years of experience in social work education, trauma-informed advocacy, and nonprofit leadership, Dr. Fleming-Trice is committed to preparing students for ethical, justice-centered practice rooted in cultural humility and community engagement. Her career began in the anti-violence movement, where she supported survivors of domestic and sexual violence and advocated for systemic change.
Her scholarly and teaching interests include anti-oppressive social work practice, organizational wellness, and the use of narrative and storytelling as tools for healing and social change.
At Talladega College, Dr. Fleming-Trice leads with compassion and clarity, creating inclusive, high-impact learning environments that nurture both academic excellence and personal growth. She is dedicated to helping students become skilled, reflective, and transformative leaders in the field of social work.
Research Interests
Dr. Fleming-Trice’s early research delved into the dynamics of workplace bullying and its connection to burnout in gender-based victim service organizations. Her other academic interests span vital topics such as enhancing support for neurodiverse faculty at HBCUs and uncovering the hidden toll of vicarious trauma on the families of social workers.
