Dr. Xiaopu Peng is an Associate Professor of Computer Science. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science and Software Engineering from Auburn University in 2022 and has since established a distinguished record as a dedicated educator, scholar, and student mentor. Drawing on a background in both data science and economics, Dr. Peng’s research spans sustainable and energy-efficient computing, machine learning for computing systems, and artificial intelligence and data science in higher education.
Promoted to Associate Professor after two years serving the College, Dr. Peng has worked continuously to raise the quality and rigor of undergraduate coursework and research experiences for the students. Starting in Fall 2026, Dr. Peng introduced artificial intelligence and data science topics across the College's curriculum. He is Corresponding Co-PI of the recently awarded NSF HBCU_UP-TIP #2606082 Research: Building STEM Pathways Powered by Data Science Skills Training to Foster Student Persistence through Institutional Partnership, and will work with a URA on publications on the topic. For the past two academic years, Dr. Peng has mentored 9 students under the McNair Title III STEM Research Program in undergraduate research and publications, and two of his senior seminar presentation students have been elected valedictorian speakers at graduation.
