May 24, 2024

Talladega College’s Esports Team is gearing up to show off their digital athleticism June 8-14 at InfoComm Esports Live 2.0, where they will face off against their gaming peers and experience the best in collegiate esports technology. InfoComm is the largest professional audiovisual trade show in North America, with thousands of vendors and products for audio, visual, conferencing, higher education, live events, and more.

“I am immensely proud to see our award-winning Esports team compete at InfoComm. Their dedication, skill, and teamwork represent some of the best and brightest talents within Talladega’s community of scholars,” said Dr. Gregory J. Vincent, President of Talladega College. “As they take on this challenge, they exemplify the spirit of excellence and achievement that defines our institution.”

The event will host four key technology stages with proven designs that will produce high-impact experiences that collegiate esports program members crave to further electrify the competition experience. The Gaming Stage, Production Stage, Shoutcast Stage, and Coaches Stage will allow esports team members to be exposed to effective tools for sponsorship and branding integration, as well as experience innovative audio/visual technology that works in tandem building a community of resources around college esports teams, such as Dega F5.

InfoComm 2024: A Platform for Excellence

InfoComm 2024, one of the largest collegiate esports tournaments in the United States, attracts top talent from universities and colleges nationwide. This year’s event will be no different and feature intense competition in popular titles like Rocket League while providing a global platform for teams to showcase their skills and vie for glory.

According to Talladega College’s director of Intercollegiate Academic Programs & Recruit, Tanaira Rounds, InfoComm 2024 presents the program’s students with an opportunity to explore first-hand the rapidly evolving field that merges technology, sports, and entertainment sectors.

“Students will be provided an invitation to a Women in A/V Industry breakfast. They will participate in a guided tour of the seven (7) sponsor booths with [an] opportunity to meet company executives within this space to learn more about how esports transitions into the various fields of the industry and their company. Our students will also have access to visit the booths of over 700 exhibiting companies that will be attending the event, allowing them to see and speak with industry professionals,” she said.

They will also test their mettle against some of the best collegiate esports teams in the country. Other participating teams include the University of Southern California, Grand Canyon University, Boise State University, Faulkner University, and the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

The Rise of Talladega’s Dega F5 Esports Program

Talladega College has long been recognized for its commitment to academic excellence and cultural diversity. However, the institution has also embraced the burgeoning world of esports in recent years. What began as a pastime activity has blossomed into a full-fledged esports program at the rich institution, complete with dedicated coaches and a passionate roster of diverse players. Match after match, Dega F5 players demonstrate resilience in the face of adversity, adapting to the ever-changing dynamics of each game and showcasing their ability to perform under pressure. Last year’s InfoComm 2023 attendee and rising senior, Luis Cardona acknowledges that esports can help boost workforce skills for students as they prepare for life post-graduation.

“Participating in the Dega F5 Esports program has helped me develop skills that have improved my professional development skills. My plans after graduation are to implement what I have learned over the years at this wonderful institution and help other students become professionals of their own,” said Cardona.

Under the guidance of esports director Carlise Tucker and Ms. Rounds, the Talladega College esports team has flourished, honing its digital skills and building a reputation for strategic prowess and sportsmanship. Despite being relative newcomers to the scene, the Talladega College squad plans to approach each tournament with confidence and determination, eager to prove itself on a national stage. Their journey to InfoComm 2024 is not merely about competition but also about representing the Talladega College community nationally and challenging stereotypes about esports.
