In a significant move towards enhancing accessibility and diversity, Talladega College has joined the Common Application (Common App). This exciting development opens new doors for prospective students by streamlining the application process and broadening their opportunities to pursue higher education.
The Common App is a widely recognized online platform used by over 1,000 colleges and universities across the United States and internationally. It simplifies the college application process by allowing students to complete and submit a single application to multiple institutions.
“We are excited to be part of the Common App. This integration is a testament to our commitment to expand access for prospective students from diverse backgrounds,” said Dr. Gregory J. Vincent, President of Talladega College. “This addition will raise our visibility and introduce our institution to countless students from across the nation.”
Derrick Robertson, vice president of Enrollment Services, said the move to join the Common App is part of an array of new enrollment and recruitment strategies taking place at the institution—most notably expanding the visibility and reach of the College.
“This partnership represents our commitment to spreading the good news about Talladega and offering an easily navigable, barrier-free, streamlined application process that gives all students an equitable shot at gaining access to its quality educational offerings,” said Robertson.
He believes this addition, coupled with Talladega’s existing utilization of the Common Black Application, will mutually benefit prospective students and Talladega, creating a value add to current institutional enrollment processes and providing a convenient, user-friendly process to app users.
“By joining the Common App, Talladega College is aligning itself with a network of prestigious institutions and making it easier for students to apply to its programs,” said Robertson.
According to the company’s website, each year, more than one million students—a third of whom are first-generation apply to college, research financial aid and scholarships, and connect to college counseling resources through Common App. With 68% of Talladega’s student population being Pell-eligible, the move aligns with current institutional goals and priorities of providing access and removing barriers to a quality education.
“This is exactly the right moment to reflect on our rich history, expand on the work of our founders, and honor our institutional mission to make a global impact by welcoming and developing the world’s thought leaders,” Robertson added.
