(Talladega, AL) Talladega College has named Kyle Liechti as its new associate head men's volleyball coach/assistant women's volleyball coach. Liechti previously served as assistant coach at Dillard University, where he aided the institution in winning its second consecutive Gulf Coast Athletic Conference undefeated regular season championship.
“In addition to being a gifted coach who helps players maximize their performance on court, Coach Liechti is an experienced recruiter with strong organizational skills,” said Vice President and Athletic Director Michael Grant. “Having worked under Talladega College Men’s and Women’s Volleyball Head Coach Lashaunda Spurgeon during her tenure as head coach at Dillard, Coach Liechti was able to make a seamless transition to Talladega College.”
At Dillard, Liechti worked primarily with the Bleu Devil setters and assisted in the offensive game plan. He spearheaded the strength and conditioning program while also contributing to recruiting efforts for the program. Under the guidance of Liechti and Head Coach Spurgeon, three players received nine conference player of the week awards during the 2022 season. In addition, there were two first team all-GCAC players and two second team all-GCAC players. Coach Liechti also helped coach two players to the GCAC All-Tournament team and two players to National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) American Volleyball Coaches Association Southeast All-Region honors.
Prior to reaching the collegiate coaching ranks, Liechti served as the head varsity coach at Stillwater High School in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where he planned, developed, and implemented a strength and conditioning program to enable his players to achieve maximum performance results on the court.
Liechti also served as executive director of CRUSH Volleyball Program in Stillwater, Oklahoma, where his responsibilities included planning preseason clinics, organizing practice and tournament schedules, hiring coaching staff, and coordinating development clinics. He served as the lead athlete recruiter for the program, which he helped to expand from four teams to nine teams.
He also served as one of the CRUSH Volleyball Program head coaches for 14U, 15U, 16U and 17U. His major wins as a head coach include first and second place in the gold, silver and bronze bracket at national tournaments.
As an undergraduate, Liechti was a four-year starter for the Oklahoma State University men’s volleyball club team, which he helped lead to the best finish in school history.
