TALLADEGA, AL — Talladega College is proud to announce that Caroline A. Wanga will serve as the keynote speaker for its upcoming commencement exercises, bringing a dynamic voice of leadership, authenticity, and purpose to the Class of 2026.
Wanga is widely recognized as a multi-hyphenate, award-winning cultural alchemist whose career spans executive leadership, equity strategy, and community impact. She currently serves as Co-Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of WangaWoman LLC, a platform grounded in the belief that purpose anchors power and propels authenticity. Her work continues to inspire individuals and organizations to operate with clarity, conviction, and courage.
Prior to launching her own venture, Wanga served as President and CEO of ESSENCE Ventures LLC, the parent company of ESSENCE, the world’s leading media and commerce platform for Black women. During her tenure from 2020 to late 2025, she led what many have described as a cultural resurgence, reestablishing ESSENCE as a powerful and relevant force that celebrates and elevates Black women as leaders in home, culture, and community.
Before her time at ESSENCE, Wanga spent 15 years with Target Corporation, where she rose from intern to Chief Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion Officer. Her leadership at Target helped shape inclusive workplace practices and strengthened the company’s commitment to equity. Her professional journey also includes nearly a decade of impactful work in youth and community development through nonprofit organizations.
In May 2025, Wanga added author to her list of accomplishments with the release of her memoir, I'm Highly Percent Sure. In the book, she shares her personal and professional journey, offering an honest reflection on the complexities of purpose and the reality that growth is rarely perfect. Her message resonates deeply with those navigating their own paths toward authenticity and impact.
Known for her powerful and candid perspective, Wanga often shares a guiding philosophy: “Who you are is who you are. If you cannot be who you are where you are, you change where you are, not who you are.” This belief serves as the foundation of her mission to “Democratize Authenticity,” a call to action that encourages individuals to live boldly and lead with intention.
As Talladega College prepares to celebrate its graduating class, Wanga’s presence as keynote speaker promises to deliver an inspiring and thought-provoking address. Her journey, leadership, and unwavering commitment to purpose align with the institution’s mission to develop graduates who are prepared to lead, serve, and make meaningful contributions to society.
The College looks forward to welcoming Caroline A. Wanga to campus for this momentous occasion, where her words will undoubtedly leave a lasting impression on graduates and all in attendance.
