Talladega College proudly announces the appointment of Dr. Xavier Whitaker as Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, effective October 27, 2025.
With more than 26 years of distinguished service in higher education, Dr. Whitaker brings a wealth of leadership experience and a steadfast commitment to student success. Most recently, he served as President and CEO of Leadership and Learning LLC, a firm dedicated to transformative higher education change through consulting, data-driven insights, and best practices.
Prior to his role as CEO, Dr. Whitaker served as Vice President for Student Affairs at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), where he provided innovative and strategic leadership for student life programs and services including Student Engagement and Leadership, Career Services, Community Standards, Counseling, Health Services, and Residence Life.
He also held leadership roles at Azusa Pacific University, where he served as Dean and Special Assistant to the President, helping balance a $150 million budget and advancing student success initiatives, and at the University of West Georgia, where he served as Associate Vice President and Dean of Students.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr. Whitaker has served as Chief Student Affairs Officer, Chief of Staff, Senior Dean’s Advisor, Director of Campus Life, and faculty member at both the University of Texas at Austin and Baylor University. His research focuses on the role of psychological, cognitive, and behavioral factors in the academic success of students at top-tier research universities. Dr. Whitaker is a recipient of the Eyes of Texas and Staff Excellence awards for exemplary service at the University of Texas at Austin.
