The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) announced the brackets for the 2024 Hope Credit Union GCAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championship hosted by Visit Tuscaloosa. The tournament tips off at noon, Wednesday, February 28 in the Stillman College Birthright Alumni Hall. All teams are seeded in the tournament, according to the conference win-loss records.
The Lady Bearcats of Rust College have been crowned the GCAC 2024 Regular Season Champions and secured the No. 1 seed finishing 17-1 in conference play. Looking to win their third consecutive conference tournament title, they will face the winner of No. 8 Tougaloo (6-12)/No. 9 University of the Virgin Islands (3-13) on Thursday, February 29 at 5 p.m.
The battle for No. 2 came down to the wire, with Philander Smith edging out Fisk through the conference tiebreaker ruling. The Lady Panthers (15-3) take on the winner of No. 7 Wiley (6-12) and No. 10 Southern University at New Orleans Lady Knights (2-16). The No. 3 spot belongs to Fisk (15-3), and they take on No. 6 Talladega (6-12). Rounding out the women's bracket are the No. 4 Dillard Lady Bleu Devils (11-7), battling No. 5 Oakwood Lady Ambassadors (7-11), and the No. 8 Tougaloo Lady Bulldogs (6-12) who will take on the No. 9 The University of the Virgin Islands Lady Buccaneers (5-13).
Women’s Tournament Seeding
On the men's side, Tougaloo's Bulldogs repeated as GCAC Regular Season Champions and look to defend their tournament title. Capping off a 15-3 season in the GCAC, the Bulldogs solidified the No. 1 seed and will take on the winner of Game 2 Between No. 8 University of the Virgin Islands (8-10) and No.9 Dillard Blue Devils (7-11).
Philander Smith (14-4) comes in at No. 2 and takes on the winner of Game 1 between No. 7 Southern University at New Orleans Knights (8-10) and No.10 Oakwood Ambassadors (1-17). The remaining battles are No. 6 Rust Bearcats (8-10) taking on No.3 Talladega (11-7), while No. 4 Fisk Bulldogs (10-8) takes on No. 5 Wiley Wildcats (8-10).
