SACSCOC: Letter from the President

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Founded in 1867 by the American Missionary Association, Talladega College has a rich history of providing access to higher education for those seeking to uplift themselves and their communities. The College was established in the aftermath of the Civil War to educate formerly enslaved people, embodying the founders’ deep commitment to social justice, intellectual growth, and the empowerment of individuals.

For nearly 160 years, Talladega College has remained true to this founding vision, consistently innovating in education to create opportunities for those with a thirst for knowledge. The inventiveness of our faculty, the industriousness of our staff, and the grit of our students have made Talladega College into a unique institution of higher learning, marked by quality instruction, groundbreaking research, and a learning environment defined by nurture and challenge. As we move full speed ahead toward creating the college of the future, we are excited to share our work with the rest of the academic community.

The Reaffirmation of Accreditation process will provide us with the opportunity to demonstrate our singular approach to higher education, both in relation to Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges standards and the vested interests of other constituencies. Just as importantly, it will present a vehicle through which we can engage with each other, sharing best practices and successes as we illuminate the value of a Talladega College education. As we transparently discuss the outcomes of the proactive measures, we have taken to continuously improve the learning experience and environment at this college, we look forward to honest analysis of our positioning as the forward-leaning institution the students of this nation need to succeed.

This website is a portal through which you can find information about our progress toward reaffirmation of accreditation. We hope that you will stay abreast of the strategic areas in which we are investing time, resources, and creativity as we look very seriously at how we are addressing the core needs of our current and future student bodies. Thank you for being our partner as we engage in this invaluable excellence-building collaboration.

Sincerely,

Walter M. Kimbrough, Ph.D.
