THERE’S A NEW BAND IN TOWN
W hether delivering a riveting half-time performance
at an NFL game or revving up the Mardi Gras
crowd in New Orleans, the Talladega College
Marching Band is always spectacular. It attracts
prospective Talladegans, enriches the lives of students,
delights spectators, and elevates the College brand. On
February 28, 2020, legendary music icon Janet
Jackson posted a video of the band on her Instagram
page and exclaimed “I love it! Y’all are steppin!” The
Tornadoes were also featured in a music video with
internationally-known performer Max Schneider
(MAX). The shoutout from Ms. Jackson, who has
millions of Instagram followers, and the video with
MAX have attracted even greater attention to the
College.
Given the myriad benefits of having a world-class
band, it is no surprise that the College recently
decided to start another band. Although the newly-
formed Talladega College Concert Band doesn’t
march, it is clearly following in the footsteps of the
“Great Tornado.” The musicians held a spectacular
inaugural performance at the Historic Ritz Theatre in
Talladega and also performed during commencement.
Its 53 dedicated members are quickly attracting new
members and fans.
If you would like to help Talladega’s band programs
continue to thrive, join Friends of the Band. The club
was created to stimulate interest in the bands and help
raise funds for uniforms, travel expenses, equipment,
and contest fees.
