For many students enrolled in a teacher education program, preparing for the Praxis can be a bit challenging, but to ease the minds of its students, Talladega College’s Department of Music has developed workshops that are designed to aid students who are on the path to obtaining teaching certification.
The 4-hour workshops include lessons on comprehension, format, content, and application of the material. In addition to the guided practices, which are led by Dr. Pamela Burns-Bell, Assistant Professor of Voice, and Dr. Mi Kyung Hwang, Chair of the Department of Music. The College's Education Department assisted in purchasing Praxis study material.
“This exam greatly impacts the lives of our students who are seeking teaching certifications in music,” said Burns-Bell. “We must take all the necessary measures to ensure that our students are prepared for the Praxis exam.”
As students in the Department of Music matriculate through the program, they will be required to take part in future workshops that cover more advanced topics to build upon their core knowledge of the curriculum and fundamentals related to the Praxis.
Upon completion of the workshops, each student will receive a certificate and the confidence of knowing that they are ready to take on the Praxis exam!
