Job Summary

Talladega College is seeking a director for its Mass Media Studies program to begin Spring Semester 2017. The candidate must hold a PhD degree in Journalism, Mass Communications or Mass Media Studies or related field and must have teaching experience in one of the above disciplines.


  • The successful candidate will be responsible for advising students who are majoring in one of the areas of Mass Media Studies
  • Teach major courses and must have experience in implementing innovative pedagogy in various facets of Mass Media
  • Coordinate and evaluate the performance of faculty
  • Monitor academic advising and recruit students
  • Recommend a schedule of classes to be offered in the department each semester
  • Serve on division and college committees
  • Administer college policies and procedures
  • Administer the department's budget
  • Oversee compliance with national and state standards
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs
  • Qualifications:

    Must hold a Ph.D. Must have classroom instructional experience at the collegiate level and evidence of successful college teaching experience, or equivalent combination of writing skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with exceptional attention to details. Demonstrated success in developing and evaluating programs. Proficient in using technology as a management reporting tool.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
