Job Summary
Reports to the Dean of Social Sciences and Education and the Chair of the Department of Sociology. We are looking for someone who is active and engaged with students and the community. This is a nine-month, full-time position at the rank of Assistant Professor with summer school employment possible but not guaranteed. 

  • Teaching, research, and service requirements as designated by the college.
  • Advising students with cooperation from the Department Chair.
  • Teaching a 5/5 load for the academic year.
  • Monitor academic advising and recruit students.
  • Be available for registration, convocations, and graduation ceremonies as needed.
  • Recommend a schedule of classes offered in the department each semester.
  • Serve on division and college committees.
  • Administer college policies and procedures.
  • Be able to teach online and in the classroom.
  • High level of computer literacy.
  • Be willing to work with student organizations as an advisor.
  • Perform research through publications and conference presentations.
  • Submit required reports. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Dean or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.

1. Master's Degree in Sociology required; Doctorate preferred.
2. A strong interest in and commitment to undergraduate education.
3. Preferred experience with diverse student populations.
4. List of specializations are open but particular interest will be given to those who can teach Research Methods, Statistics, or Social Theory.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
