Job Summary

The ideal candidate is energetic and engaged with faculty and students. Knowledge of professional duties and the ability to work with a dynamic team of professors to develop students’ to their full potential is critical for success in this role. Chairs who are dedicated to meeting students’ academic needs often need support with advising files and support with organization for reviews, internal and external. The Division and Chairs’ meetings require planning and record keeping. A dedicated candidate will work with a stance of team player in order to guide the Division to meet the needs of every student.

Responsibilities

The Administrative Assistant: Maintains confidentiality of the official files and records for the office. Performs administrative support duties, maintaining a variety of reports, such as time (i.e. sick leave, vacation time), attendance, personnel actions, payroll, correspondence and budget records. Coordinates meetings including scheduling, developing agendas, program materials and travel arrangements. Screens, records and routes office mail and respond to telephone calls. Works with faculty to keep student records and assist with registration. Attends college events and supports the faculty in presenting the purpose of the Social Sciences and Education Division at open house and some weekend events. Represents Talladega College with professionalism and discretion. Assists division faculty with various assignments upon request such as supporting the care and design of the Andrews on 2nd Clothes Closet, participating with faculty and students in celebrations, convocations, and special Talladega College events. Other duties as assigned.

Qualificatons

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent training and experience required. Must have the ability to work under pressure and facilitate multiple detailed tasks. Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Must exhibit professionalism, integrity and confidentiality. Demonstrate proficiency in MS Office Programs, English grammar, spelling and punctuation skills, office methods, procedures and practices. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to handle multiple priorities.

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
