Talladega College continues to celebrate a pivotal academic year with an increase in student enrollment. The College announced that Fall 2026 enrollment is up nearly 14% since Fall 2025. The surge marks Talladega’s highest enrollment since 2022 and reverses a three-year decline. The College has also increased its student retention from 60% in 2025 to 62% in 2026.
"Our enrollment growth represents more than an increase in the number of students attending our institution,” said Dr. Willie L. Todd Jr., president and CEO. “It represents renewed momentum and confidence in the future of Talladega College. When I arrived as president in July 2025, we established a clear vision to reimagine liberal arts education, strengthen institutional sustainability, and position Talladega College for long-term success. Today, we are beginning to see the results of that collective commitment.” Dr. Todd has led Talladega under the theme Forging Onward: Reimagining Liberal Arts Education.
Talladega’s upward trend arrives alongside major national recognitions. In September, U.S. News & World Report ranked Talladega #1 in regional Best Value Schools, #4 in Top Performer on Social Mobility in the region, #25 in regional Top Private Schools, #29 in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, and #32 in Best Regional Colleges. In August, Forbes ranked Talladega #8 on its Best Private HBCUs list.
Dr. Todd noted the effort of Talladega’s employees. "I am particularly proud of our faculty and staff who have worked collaboratively to recruit students and create opportunities for them to pursue their educational goals. We are not simply growing enrollment. We are demonstrating what is possible when an institution embraces innovation, accountability, and a shared commitment to student success. We are reimagining what is possible at Talladega College.”
The teams across the historic campus, Alabama’s oldest private HBCU, have acted upon five operational shifts:
While the College has taken significant steps in the right direction since 2025, Dr. Todd and his team are focused on more opportunities for success.
"Our work does not end with enrollment. Our responsibility is to ensure that every student who enters Talladega College has the opportunity to succeed, graduate, and become a productive leader in their chosen profession and community. I want every student to leave with a degree in one hand and real-world experiences in the other hand,” he added.
