Dr. Adrian L. Mayse to Serve as Talladega College’s Dean of the Division of Business Administration

June 29, 2023

Talladega, AL—Dr. Adrian L. Mayse will join the faculty of Talladega College on July 1, 2023, as the new Dean of the Division of Business Administration. Dr. Mayse will also hold the rank of tenured Professor.

Mayse has been at Howard University since 2015, having served as Assistant Professor and tenured Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting. He also served as chair of the department for three years.

Mayse earned a Ph.D. in Business Administration (Accounting) and a Master of Professional Accountancy (M.P.A.) from Jackson State University, and his B.B.A. in Banking and Finance from the University of Mississippi. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in Mississippi.

As chair of Howard University’s Department of Accounting, Mayse managed a broad portfolio which included seven full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty, eleven part-time instructors, the Center for Accounting Education, and provided accounting and business law courses for 1,500 business majors and minors as well as master’s degree students in Business, Finance, and Accounting. He also oversaw two student organizations: the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) and Beta Alpha Psi.

Mayse knew he had found his passion as an administrator when he began working on the accreditation process for the department at Howard University. His experience will be put to good use as he begins the process of gaining the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) accreditation for the Division of Business Administration at Talladega College. The process ensures outstanding leadership and teaching as well as making sure the accredited units are on a cycle of continuous improvement.

As part of that cycle, Mayse and Provost Barbara Johnson will be evaluating student success factors, examining enrollment and retention and where students go post-graduation. They will also assess what professional development faculty have received and what types of research they have undertaken. Mayse says it is all part of improving teaching and learning.

Also, on the horizon for the Division of Business Administration is the new Entrepreneurship Center. Talladega College is in the early stages of planning, but Mayse reports it will offer opportunities and resources for students and the community.

Provost Johnson is excited to have a talent like Mayse on her team. “Dr. Mayse is bringing new energy and focus to our Division of Business Administration and will take us to even greater heights.”
