Get Ready to Give: Talladega College’s Annual Students First! Day of Giving is April 22-23

April 17, 2024

Talladega College’s annual Students First! Day of Giving is right around the corner. The College is focused on raising money for student programs and initiatives that make a difference in student success. Between noon on April 22 and noon April 23. Donors will have the option to give to Student Scholarships, Athletics, Intercollegiate Academics or the Great Tornado Band.

Why Give?

  • Talladega College is a national leader in social mobility. More than two-thirds of Talladega College students are Pell grant eligible, many their families earn less than $50,000 per year. Talladega offers significant scholarships to deserving students to help keep the cost of their education affordable.
  • Sixty-six percent of our incoming class of scholar-athletes in Fall of 2023 were admitted through the assured admittance plan, meaning they had GPAs of 3.0 or higher. We offer 18 competitive varsity athletic programs that attract students from around the world.
  • Intercollegiate Academics offers Talladega College students the chance to network and successfully compete in national academic events like Hackathons, Esports, HBCU College Bowl, and many others.
  • The high-energy Talladega Great Tornado Band has been named one of the top five HBCU bands in the country. These talented musicians represent the College and the state of Alabama at events and competitions around the world.

But what is most important is what these programs mean to Talladega College students. Education takes place across campus, in and out of the classroom.

“Participating in the Apple HBCU C2 program at Talladega College has been transformative. As a student leader, I’ve honed leadership skills and collaborated on impactful projects,” said Vuma. “Professionally, it’s opened doors to networking with industry professionals and provided insights into technology careers. Personally, it’s empowered me to drive positive change in my community through tech initiatives. From coding workshops to mentoring programs, the experience has been invaluable for personal and professional growth. Grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, I’ve expanded my skills, network, and impact, thanks to the Apple HBCU C2 program,” he explained.

Junior Mass Media major Meadow Gillespie said her experience on the Lady Tornadoes Basketball team has been invaluable. “When you’re on the court, you have to make split-second decisions, communicate with your teammates, and take charge when needed. It really helps build confidence and assertiveness, she said.

“And let’s not forget about perseverance! Basketball teaches you to keep pushing even when things get tough. It’s all about bouncing back from mistakes and never giving up. Plus, physical activity is great for mental health. And managing your time between practice, games, and other responsibilities? It’s like a crash course in time management!” Gillespie added.

Your donation to Talladega College can make a difference whether students are on the court, in the classroom, or competing against peers from other institutions!
