Talladega College students to participate in virtual event with Mark Cuban

March 17, 2021

(Talladega, AL) Talladega College students will participate in a virtual meeting with billionaire entrepreneur and television personality Mark Cuban on March 29, 2021.  Cuban is the best-selling author of How to Win at the Sport of Business and the owner of the Dallas Mavericks and Shark Tank.

Talladega College’s Mass Media Studies Chair, Dr. Luis Almeida, who arranged the event, stated, “Our students need to have hope that success is a possibility in these COVID-19 times. I find nobody better than Mark Cuban to speak about hope in entrepreneurship.”

Dr. Almeida believes it is critical to give mass media students the skills they need to excel in the workplace as well as the exposure and connections that will open doors of opportunity.

He was recently appointed center affiliate at the Rutgers Center for Minority Serving Institutions, and he is ranked among YouPic.com's Top 10 Best Nature Photographers in the United States.  Dr. Almeida recently presented a keynote titled "Scale Your Social Media Campaign Beyond Borders" to the Center for Arts, Migration and Entrepreneurship at the University of Florida. He also recently published the leadership article "6 Strategic Ways to Aim High and Achieve Goals" at Lifehack.

Talladega College was recently named to the PR News 2021 Education A-List Top 35 institutions for advancing careers in public relations and communication.  Other institutions listed among the top 35 include Columbia University, Georgetown University, John Hopkins University, and Northwestern University.

Dr. Almeida believes Talladega’s teaching methods, in which students learn by engaging in real-world projects, helped land the college on the prestigious list.

“Talladega College students work beside professionals and produce high-quality products for companies in our region and for departments on campus. Our students are engaged in applied media and learning the exact skills that are needed in the marketplace,” said Dr. Almeida.

Talladega’s  Department of Mass Media Studies is now ranked #5 among the best Mass Communication Programs in the state of Alabama, according to Universities.com.

Upcoming fall classes at Talladega College include innovation and social media, multimedia storytelling, and digital photography.  For information about admission to Talladega College, you may email admissions@talladega.edu or phone 256-761-6235.
