PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH: Process

What is the process for selecting a new president?

The Talladega College Board of Trustees formed a Search Committee to conduct the search for the new president. The Search Committee consists of representatives from campus constituencies including the Board of Trustees, academic leadership, alumni, students, and the community. WittKieffer, the executive search firm, then builds a pool of potential candidates over the course of several weeks. The Search Committee is charged with vetting these candidates through material review and interviews both off-campus and then on campus. The search committee then recommends no fewer than two (2) but no more than four (4) candidates to the Talladega Board of Trustees who select the next president of the college.

Who are the search committee members and how are the chair and the search committee members selected?

How is the search conducted?

A search firm was selected through an RFP process conducted by the college to assist in the presidential search. The search firm works with the search committee and the Talladega Board of Trustees to develop the job description, the required and preferred qualifications for the position, as well as the campus prospectus that describes the college, including its current strengths, opportunities, and challenges and information about Talladega environment. The firm then places advertisements and conducts active outreach nationally and even internationally to recruit a large, talented, and diverse pool of qualified candidates to be considered by the committee. The firm will also work with the Talladega Board of Trustees and the Search Committee to conduct extensive due diligence checks and references on all finalists.

After vetting several search firms, Talladega College retained WittKieffer to assist with the presidential search. The WittKieffer team is led by Greg Duyck, Christine Pendleton and Oliver Tomlin.

The Search Committee will review the pool and ultimately select 8–12 candidates for first-round interviews. From this group, finalists will be selected and invited for further interviews on campus.

In the last step, the names of the finalist candidates and the search committee's full evaluations of each are sent to the Board of Trustees. The Talladega College Board of Trustees ultimately selects the next President.
