Social Media Guidelines

Talladega College recognizes the importance of social media in disseminating news, exchanging information and ideas, engaging in conversations, and building valuable connections. To maintain our brand image, it is critical that all departments, offices, programs and individuals authorized to speak on behalf of the College via social media follow these guidelines and be aware of the consequences of noncompliance. In this document, social media sites include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, SnapChat, blogs, personal web sites, and other social media not listed here or yet to be developed.

 

Guidelines

  • Ensure that personal accounts are not represented as College accounts.
  • Ensure that comments expressing personal opinion on personal accounts do not represent the College.
  • Avoid any and all offensive, derogatory, libelous or defamatory content or commentary online and be aware that such comments could jeopardize the reputation of the College and possibly have legal consequences.
  •  Be familiar with TITLE IX.
  • Know that nonconformity includes disclosing confidential information through personal or College accounts.
  • Avoid plagiarism.  
  • Avoid engaging in online communication on issues outside your area of expertise. 
  • Alert the public relations staff before releasing information that could have a major impact.  
  • Do not randomly delete criticism. Listen to and reply to criticism.
  • Correct misleading comments.
  • Delete false content.
