Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Residential Life, the Residence Hall Director (RHD) is a full time, live in, 12-month position that provides day-to-day management and supervision of a new state of the art residence hall.


The RHD train, supervise and evaluate six to twelve resident assistants; assist with closing and opening of the residence halls, check-in, check-out, fire, health and safety inspections, roster verification, room changes, room condition reports, key inventory management, and occupancy management; serve in the professional on-call crisis rotation and adjudication of code of conduct behaviors to ensure a safe, clean, and functional living environment and to uphold community standards of the college; design and implement programs and events that foster academic, social, cultural and respectful community living environment; assist in planning and facilitating various staff training workshops for professional staff; lead, assist, and serve on committees, initiatives or processes; coordinate programming efforts with an emphasis on faculty involvement in all educational activities; promote a healthy and positive residential hall government; report all necessary repairs to the Facilities Department; and other duties as assigned. The RHD may be required to work in the event of an emergency or severe weather conditions, whether or not the college is closed. The RHD will serve as a role model and must be familiar with, enforce, and support all institutional and Housing and Residence Life policies.


A Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree in Higher Education or related field and previous professional experience in residential life is strongly preferred. A minimum of 2 years' experience working in a college or university residential life program or appropriate related work experience. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office, planning, budgeting, team building, supervising, advising, presenting, and training. Proven leadership and experience in working with a diverse student population and experience in all aspects of residential living in a college or university, emergency response and judicial affairs. Proven ability to establish strong collaborative relationships and work effectively with students, faculty, and staff. Willingness to accept professional growth and development training as it relates to residential life
