Responsibilities
The part-time relief director position consists of working the 24-hour information and security desk in the residence halls. General work responsibilities include facilitating the guest check-in/check-out policy, answering the phone, reporting building issues, and other performing other customer service duties. The part-time relief director works under the direct supervision of a Resident Center Manager.  Both the part-time relief director and full-time RCM will work in conjunction with the Assistant Director of Residence Life.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Attend and contribute to training and workshop sessions.
  2. Maintain frequent contact with the RCM.
  3. Assist students in maintaining an environment conducive to learning and studying.
  4. Serve as a resource and referral agent.
  5. Read and uphold the Front Desk Operations Manual and ask questions if unclear regarding any issue, policy, expectation, or procedure.
  6. Relief directors will be responsible for managing their schedule to ensure they are meeting minimum hour requirements and not violating any Human Resources or Housing and Residence Life employment policies. Relief directors work 29 hours per a week.
  7. Ensure the front desk is not left unattended during assigned shift. Relief Directors must remain at the desk until the replacement Relief Director has arrived.
  8. A Relief Director must be open to the diversity of the residents and staff. Demonstrate respect for those who may be different than you.
  9. Dress appropriately for work. 
  10. Contact the Resident Assistant on Duty and/or Campus Police in the event of an emergency. Always follow the emergency protocol outlined in the Front Desk Operations Manual.
  11. Uphold visitation procedures and do not allow persons without the proper identification to check into the building.
  12. Listen to residents who approach the desk in order to serve them as effectively as possible.
  13. Respond to emergency and crisis situations.
  14. Document all disciplinary problems and subsequent actions. Refer incidents and policy violations to the appropriate staff member.
  15. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications
A high school degree/equivalent GED is required or related field and previous professional experience in residential life is strongly preferred.  A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a college or university residential life program.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft office, planning, budgeting, team building, supervising, advising, presenting, and training.  Proven leadership and experience in working with a diverse student population and experience in all aspects of residential living in a college or university, emergency response and judicial affairs.  Have a willingness to accept professional growth and development training as it relates to residential life.
