Reporting to the Dean of Social Sciences and Education, the Chair of the Sociology Department is the designated leader and faculty administrative officer responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the department. This is a nine-month, full-time position with summer school employment possible but not guaranteed. Salary and rank will be based on qualifications and experience.

  • Coordinate and evaluate the performance of faculty
  • Monitor academic advising and recruit students
  • Recommend a schedule of classes to be offered in the department each semester
  • Serve on division and college committees
  • Administer college policies and procedures
  • Administer the department's budget
  • Oversee compliance with SACSCOC
  • Guide the Sociology Department in adhering to SACSCOC standards and processes
  • Submit required reports
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs
  • Qualifications
    1. Earned Doctoral degree in Sociology
    2. A minimum of 3 years' experience teaching in an accredited institution of higher education
    3. A strong interest in and commitment to undergraduate education
    4. Preferred experience with diverse student populations

The history of Talladega College began on November 20, 1865, when two former slaves William Savery and Thomas Tarrant, both of Talladega, met in convention with a group of new freedmen in Mobile, Alabama.
